To finish this book. I had to practice self-compassion. Heaps.
When I excitedly set out on the journey of putting together a creative workbook filled with fun activities for self-compassion, I had no idea that in a short time I'd be needing to draw upon those very activities to stay well.
I started the book with full enthusiasm, one afternoon all of the book chapters flowed through me and out into the world onto post-it notes. It was a beautiful download of divine inspiration.
Then, I had a few setbacks, a death in the family and some chronic insomnia reared its head. Life had got so difficult and stressful, I had to practice what I was preaching, there was to be no shortcuts, no pushing or forcing, I simply had to be kind.
Through the process of writing this book, I've learned that self-compassion is not something you switch on when you really need it but rather it's a daily practice, a moment to moment practice of supporting and nurturing yourself. For best use apply consistently to your life, rather than just waiting for when you are plunged into crisis mode.
